If you live or have traveled the East coast of the United States, you have probably become familiar with Wawa (see also ‘The 16 Best Wawa Menu Items You Have To Try‘). Best known for their hoagies, Wawa’s sandwiches are loved by many and are a tasty lunch or snack option.

The Best Sandwiches At WAWA (Complete Guide)

Starting in Pennsylvania in 1890, Wawa has a rich history of providing customers with affordable snacks, even having its own Dairy farm for over 50 years.

But, in the 1960s, customers began shopping in-store for milk, so instead of home delivery, the first Wawa food market store was opened.

Today, Wawa has over 900 stores across the East coast, with drive-through stores also opening in 2020.

From chips to soda, and hoagies to desserts, Wawa sells all the snacks you would ever want. But, in today’s blog, we will be looking at the vast range of sandwiches on offer at Wawa.

You’ll be surprised how tasty some of these premium quality foods are! And, there is something to suit all budgets. So, let’s get started and rank the best Wawa sandwiches available in-store today.

Wawa Sandwiches

1. Classic Italian Hoagie

If you want a taste of Italia, it doesn’t get much better than Wawa’s Classic Italian Hoagie.

One of the best Wawa Hoagies available, this classic blends traditional flavors and mouth-watering ingredients to create one, super-delicious sandwich.

If you’re hungry, you can rest assured that this hoagie will fill you up. The bread comes with generous amounts of cold cuts, such as traditional ham, hot ham, and delectable salami.

With toppings of fresh cheese, lettuce, tomato, and some onion, the combination of flavors are divine.

Although the standard version of this hoagie comes with Provolone cheese, you can ask for different types of cheese, if you wanted to.

To make it as Italian as possible, we recommend adding a good dosing of oil and vinegar. Comfort food at its best!

2. The Gobbler

Want to gobble up a sandwich to give you fuel for the road? Look no further than the aptly named Gobbler!

This sandwich is fully focused on Thanksgiving and holiday flavors, such as turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and gravy. Combined in a hoagie roll, you will feel like Christmas came early.

This seasonal treat is a hot sandwich and also comes with alternate versions.

You can opt for the Gobbler Hoagie with Mashed Potatoes, which comprises mashed potato, turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, and garlic aioli.

It is also possible to substitute the mashed potato for sweet potatoes, too. If you want to enjoy a full, hearty meal, go for the Gobbler Bowl.

This consists of a bed of either mashed or sweet potatoes, all blanketed in gravy, alongside turkey, cranberry sauce, and a generous amount of stuffing.

But, you can only purchase the Gobbler throughout December in certain, participating stores.

3. The BLT

Wawa never disappoints when it comes to classic snacks. And, their BLT is no exception.

This delicious sandwich has all the trimmings you’d expect in a BLT, such as bacon, lettuce, tomato, and a dressing to leave your mouth watering.

Ever had a BLT and found one bite has taken care of all the bacon inside? Well, this won’t be a problem at Wawa. Thanks to a generous amount of bacon in the sandwich, every bite is crunchy and a taste sensation.

The shredded lettuce is easier to consume and gives you that dose of vegetables that is important as part of a balanced diet.

The ratio between bacon and veggies is perfect. Add some mustard for extra flavor, rather than mayonnaise, and you have yourself one of the best BLTs around.

4. Pepperoni Hoagies

We’ve already covered the Classic Italian Hoagie, but there is a whole range of hoagies on offer at Wawa.

The Pepperoni Hoagie is a unique menu item at Wawa because it can be pretty challenging to track it down.

Some stores will sell it, whilst others will not. But, if you’re up for an adventure, it is worth it if you end up finding this pepperoni gem.

When biting into this hoagie, it’ll taste more like a pizza, but on a warm, fresh, hoagie roll. And, you don’t have to stick with the standard version.

You can customize your pepperoni Hoagie and change up the cheese, dressings, and veggies, to suit your taste buds.

We recommend going for Provolone cheese, onions, olives, and some tomatoes. It’ll still taste like a pizza, but with a certain twist to the flavor.

5. Meatball Sandwich

Fancy yourself as a meatball connoisseur? Well, you will have to try Wawa’s Meatball Sandwich.

This classic food item is taken a step further with the delectable meatballs stuffed into a soft hoagie roll, creating a perfect combination.

The ratio of cheese to meatballs is right on point with this sandwich. And, the meatballs do not overpower the bread or vice versa, either. Wawa’s has got this meatball treasure just right!

Also included is gooey, mouth-watering cheese, that strikes the right balance with the meatballs and bread. For meat eaters, it doesn’t get much better than Wawa’s Meatball Sandwich.

6. Turkey Hoagie

If you’re in the mood for some hearty, traditional flavors, then Wawa’s Turkey hoagie may be the right choice for you.

The best thing about this sandwich, though, is that you customize it however you want it.

Although it tastes amazing in its purest form, with tomato, lettuce, cheese, and a drizzle of oil or mayonnaise, you could go for more extravagant ingredients.

You can choose from peppers, olives, and various dressings to change up the flavors.

Once you have your hands on this hoagie, you’ll be surprised how big it is. It’s so big, you may have to share it with a friend!

All we know is that you are surely going to love this traditional hoagie, especially with the selection of toppings possible.

7. Cheesesteak

Comfort food doesn’t get much better than the Cheesesteak in Wawa. Full of meaty flavor, this is a greasy, cheesy sandwich that satisfies every taste bud.

If you’re on a diet, it’s probably best to avoid Wawa’s cheesesteak as they are not the healthiest option.

But, as a treat (we all deserve them now and again), this sandwich is packed full of cheese and hot meat to create something brilliantly delicious.

If you find it’s a bit big for one serving, feel free to share it around, especially if you’re not all that hungry.

But, if you feel like a large meal, pair it with a soda drink and some potato chips. Once you try this, you’ll be back for more!

8. Turkey Club

A classic that doesn’t need much introduction, the Turkey Club from Wawa is made from premium ingredients to create the freshest, most delectable sandwich.

With the addition of a specialty sauce, this turkey club is one of the best we have ever tried. When it comes to choosing toppings for this club, there are almost no limits.

But, we recommend going for chipotle mayo to add a wonderful creamy texture to the sandwich and balance the spice perfectly.

The turkey in this club is thinly sliced and pairs incredibly with the smoky applewood bacon, tomato, lettuce, and American cheese.

We think they should rename this the “Perfectly Balanced Turkey Sub!” Crispy bacon, soft, mouth-watering bread – there’s nothing bad to say about Wawa’s Turkey Sub (see also ‘The 10 Must-Try Items From The Secret Menu At Jersey Mike’s‘).

9. Chicken Finger Hoagie

Another timeless, meaty classic, the Chicken Finger Hoagie from Wawa has two of our favorite Wawa items – breaded, crunchy chicken tenders, and their soft hoagie.

This is another large sandwich, as most are at Wawa, so you may have to share it, or leave some for later.

The hoagie is loaded with vegetables of your choice, a dressing, and cheese, alongside the chicken tenders. The best combo, in our opinion, is lettuce, tomatoes, and some onions, though.

But, be adventurous, and choose what you think you’ll love! There is a whole range of flavorful combinations you can try. No matter what you add, it will always taste great!

10. Roasted Veggie Hoagie

Another popular hoagie at Wawa is the Roasted Veggie sandwich. This is a tasty and easy way to get some important veggies into your diet to be healthier and more balanced.

In a sea of meat-orientated hoagies, this vegetable offering tends to stand out. With seasonal vegetables, this hoagie is refreshing, healthy, and extremely flavorful.

With every bite, you can enjoy the combination of squash, tomatoes, and spinach. And, add some Provolone cheese into the mix and you can add some additional texture and flavor to it.

The Roasted Veggie Hoagie typically comes with only one slice of cheese, but you do have the option of choosing more cheese and fewer veggies, or vice versa.

The more cheese, the better, in our opinion!

11. Chicken Salad Sandwich

Cuts of juicy, tender chicken and creamy mayo help make Wawa’s Chicken Salad Sandwich one of the best things to eat at the store.

As always, the balance and ratio of the foods in this sandwich are spot on. Therefore, you can enjoy the flavors of everything with every bite.

It doesn’t get much more simple than this sandwich, but its premium ingredients certainly stand out. The portions are just right so you don’t feel too full after eating the sandwich.

Moreover, if you don’t want it in its plain form, you can choose a few slices of bacon or some veggies to add an extra crunch to it.

And, don’t be shy – ask for some more mayo to make it even creamier. One bite, and you’ll be in heaven.

12. Ham Hoagie

As you can see from this list, Wawa likes to keep its sandwiches pretty simple. And, it doesn’t get much simpler than the Ham Hoagie.

Consisting of thin slices of ham, this sandwich is topped off with salt, pepper, vegetables, and a drizzle of oil. The result? A simple yet highly delicious ham sandwich, perfect for a quick snack on the road.

13. Cheese Hoagie

Do you love cheese? Well, get ready to treat your taste buds with Wawa’s Cheese Hoagie. Made from all available cheeses at Wawa, this hoagie also comes with a variety of toppings.

For some, this may be a bit too cheesy, as not all cheeses tend to blend well together. But, we think Wawa has it just right with its cheese hoagie.

It’s light and easy to eat, but certainly not the healthiest of choices at Wawa.

All in all, this is a classic hoagie, but without any meat. It tastes just like many of Wawa’s other hoagies, but without the meat. Perfect for vegetarians and cheese lovers of the world!

Sides And Afters To Go With Your Wawa Sandwich

It’s not all about the sandwiches at Wawa. You can also enjoy a selection of delicious snacks and treats that can go well after a sandwich, to finish off your meal. Here are our favorites.

Cannoli Dip & Chips

If you ever visit Philadelphia, home to Wawa, you’ll find that Cannolis are hugely popular.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise to learn that Wawa has introduced a modern version of this with its Cannoli Dip and Chips.

One of the store’s ready-to-eat items, this is a perfect treat to enjoy. Salty and sweet, the dip and chips come in a plastic container in separate compartments so you can dip away to your heart’s content.

Within the dip, you will find small chocolate chips acting as a topping. If you feel too full after your sandwich, you can refrigerate this dip and chips and save them for later.

After all, it’s always nice to have a treat waiting in the refrigerator to look forward to!

Soft Pretzels

We think these go well alongside your sandwich any day of the week! Everyone loves pretzels, but if you haven’t tried Wawa’s Soft Pretzels, you are missing out!

Sold in two to a package, these little delights are connected in their middle. And, once you bite in, you get simple chewy goodness!

As the name suggests, these soft pretzels are renowned for their chewy, soft texture. If you wanted to know what the texture was like, the closest resemblance is arguably chewy bread.

Compared to other, hardened pretzels, this soft variety has a higher moisture content, resulting in that softness.

These soft pretzels are nut-free, dairy-free, kosher, and vegan, meaning practically everyone can enjoy them.

We recommend trying them with Wawa’s Gulden’s mustard for a taste combo that will blow your mind. Also, try heating your pretzel to soften and warm the inside a bit. It will literally melt in your mouth.

Apple Caramel Dippers

Many of us like to finish off a meal or snack with something sweet. Thankfully, Wawa offers Apple Caramel Dippers that will satisfy your sweet tooth every time.

The green apple in this snack is sliced and stored in a plastic container with the caramel dip on top of the apples.

If you have the little ones with you, they will love this snack! It’s perfect to add to their lunch box or as an after-school treat!

You can also find apple and peanut butter dip at Wawa, if you’re not a fan of caramel. If you need to add more fruit to your diet, these apple caramel dippers are a great place to start.

If you’re in a hurry and have no time to browse fruit stands, pick up one of these as part of your daily fruit fix.

Known as the East Coast’s favorite gas station, Wawa is also renowned for its affordable, delicious food.
